Read local, plus global

Reading the newspaper is a good way to be well informed.
My German local newspaper “Weser Kurier” is clearly divided in front page, politics, economics, world news, culture, entertainment, sports and local sections. Hence, I often read the front page at first, as it presents the headline news. Later on, I often read current affairs on politics which are followed by world and sport news. Further, I read about economics, culture and entertainment. However, it always depends on the news value; if the front page reports on a disastrous wave such as the tsunami I would read the world news at first to get more details about the impact. After that I would read about other affairs.
In other words, I usually try to read all sections because they form the society in which I live. It is good to have an overview about local and global affairs.
Television rules

I spend my actual time by watching television.
Compared to watching television that is eighty percent, I read the newspaper less, which is a fifty percent activity in my spare time. It is more convenient to watch television as it is passive. Indeed, it is more comfortable, too. For instance, I can enjoy my dinner while watching television. However, if I want to read the newspaper I have to leave the house; unless the postman delivers the newspaper. Further, it takes more time to read the newspaper because I have to look through the newspaper to figure out what is the best news. Additionally, I am not able to do two things at the same time such as cooking and watching television.
To be honest, I would read the newspaper more if the postman delivered the newspaper for free; since I am a coach potato, I prefer reading the news in the internet which is really comfortable and cheap. In addition, I am really attracted to colourful images and headlines, so I prefer to read news in the internet as it offers a bunch of colourful images and headlines.
However, watching television determines my life.
Images attract the reader

Of course, I would try to change my news value so that the news value works better. For instance, I would change the value from human interest to conflict. However, if the news value does not work at all, I would work with images and big bold headlines to dramatize my story thus the reader would catch interest. It is a good trick to make a story more attractive as readers’ eyes pay attention to images and bold as well as colourful headlines.
Create a hook by using a celebrity’s quote
By TrycjaAugust 18, 2007
An introduction is the key to involve the reader into one’s story. If you fail to write a good introduction you should try to find an alternative way to convince the reader.
Certainly, if my introduction does not attract the reader or does not lead to the next paragraph, I would create another one to catch the reader’s interest as using a quote from the interview. Or, to make the story more interesting, I would ask a celebrity to give his point of view on my story so I could include his or her statement; as readers are often interested in a politician’s or star’s opinion.
In other words, a celebrity’s quote can jazz up a last-minute introduction.
The sub-editor’s Duty
By TrycjaAugust 18, 2007
The sub-editor is the last authority who revises an article before the article is to be published.
If the sub-editor changes the meaning of the story, I would acknowledge him to write another article to apologize to the reader and to me; and thereby to report the original story. In addition, I would ask him to write a confidential letter to clarify the whole misunderstanding and apologise to my sources.
In other words, the sub-editor should take duty if he misreports.
